Aerial Movement
Involves suspended movements and inversions in silk hammocks:
In the modern world we tend to do much more gravity resisted movement such as walking, running and sitting and much less swinging and hanging. This is why aerial offers such an advantageous tool kit to peak physical results and performance.
Aerial Pilates combines traditional Pilates exercises with the use of a suspended fabric hammock. This allows for a full-body workout that incorporates elements of strength, flexibility, and balance while suspended in the air.
Inversions, such as those practiced in aerial Pilates, offer numerous benefits. By turning upside down, you can decompress the spine, improve circulation, and increase blood flow to the brain, which may enhance cognitive function. Additionally, inversions can help improve posture, relieve stress, and build core strength.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and trauma are prevalent psychological conditions that can profoundly impact individuals’ mental and physical well-being. Aerial Pilates can be beneficial for trauma survivors and those experiencing chronic pain or PTSD. The inverted positions in silk hammocks offer physical benefits for the nervous system. PTSD can strain the nervous system, and the privacy of the silk hammocks creates a safe space for emotional healing.
For trauma survivors, reconnecting with the body can be challenging. The cocoon-like structure of the hammock offers a safe and private environment for rebuilding this relationship. It allows survivors to form a therapeutic connection with their bodies in a nurturing space. Suspension of the body in the air requires a physical trust, which can be difficult for trauma survivors. Engaging in inversions mimics a continual trust fall with oneself, encouraging the body to let go and release tension.
